The first part of the account, extending to 1782, was written in the form of an autobiography of Boone, "from his own mouth," by John Filson and first published in the appendix to his "Discovery, settlement, and present state of Kentucky," Wilmington, Del., 1784. cf. R. T. Durrett, John Filson, 1884, and preface to Filson's "Discovery." The continuation of the life of Boone is by "a near relation of the colonel" (a resident of Cincinnati)
